Course Structure

 Part 1: Design and sketch (6 sessions)

• Introduction to the abaya and its historical background
• Types of abayas
• Color wheel
• Color theory
• Creating a mood board for abaya design and sketching a fashion mannequin
• Flat sketching and understanding body shapes
• Designing an abaya collection (6 abayas)
• Adding design details (embroidery, piping, etc.)
• Project 1: Preparing and presenting the mood board

Part 2: sewing (6 sessions)

• How to take accurate body measurements for an abaya
• Introduction to sewing machines and how to use them for abaya construction
• Understanding different types of fabrics, choosing the right fabric for each design, and learning the basics of smart purchasing, price comparison, and quality evaluation
• How to create an abaya pattern
• How to sew an abaya
• How to cut abaya fabric correctly
• How to follow up with a tailor during the production process
